© РИА Томск. Павел Стефанский TOMSK, Sep 16 – RIA Tomsk. Interdisciplinary team of researchers of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) developed a methodology for intellectual analysis of destructive ultra-right content in social networks and software tools for its use; the project was supported by a grant of Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR), the press service of the university said on Monday.
It is specified that the project supported by the
Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) will allow TPU scientists to focus
on creating a technical solution for identifying ultra-right radical
communities in social networks and forecasting threats from them. By December
2019 it is expected to develop a prototype system for identifying such
communities on the Internet (currently there are testing the system and
creating an interface).
"We are doing the work comprehensively: both at
the level of theoretical study of the radicalization process on the far-right
ideological platform and at the level of technical solutions. Using Web Mining
methods, we are creating new tools for identifying far-right radical
communities that can be configured on any social networks", – the press
service quotes the project manager, sociologist Anna Karpova.
According to her, polytechnics have developed a new
method, which was called with the working name of CCA (calendar-correlation
analysis). This is a way of detecting an ultra-right group by a characteristic
change in its activity in the "neighborhood" of key events important
for radical communities. A prototype to identify and predict possible incidents
at the planning and resource mobilization stage has already been created.

"Interdisciplinary research teams allow to create
high-precision software algorithms <...>, adapt social science methods
designed to study complex processes and computer sciences to solve problems in
the field of intellectual analysis of destructive social media content", –
the press service quotes the associate professor of the TPU Division for
Information Technology Alexey Savelyev.
The plans of the participants of the interdisciplinary
group for the study of destructive groups on the Internet include the creation
of a scientific laboratory in the field of Data Science. Currently outlined the
plans for the development of new methods and technical solutions for
identifying possible threats on the Internet, emphasizes the report.
It is noted that TPU is currently implementing a
professional development program "Countering the spread of the ideology of
extremism and terrorism". The program is trained not only by polytechnics,
but also by external students, including from other regions of Russia. The
program includes a wide range of topics designed for professionals working with
young people.
