TOMSK, Oct 27 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State (TSU) and Tomsk Polytechnic (TPU) universities retained their positions in the ranking of participants of the federal "5-100" project to increase the competitiveness of universities; TSU is again included in the first group of participating universities, TPU - in the second group, is reported on the website of the federal project.

Earlier it was reported that two Tomsk universities - TSU and TPU - since 2013 participate in the "5-100" program. In 2015, both universities received maximum funding - 964 million rubles each, in 2016 they entered the second group, receiving 500 million each. In 2017, project financing amounted to 482 million for each of the universities, while TSU again took the lead and retains this position until now, having received about 800 million rubles in 2018 and 2019, TPU remained in the second group with funding over 450 millions.
It was also reported that on October 25-26, Moscow hosted a Council on improving the competitiveness of leading universities ("5-100" project council) under the chairmanship of Tatyana Golikova, the Deputy Prime Minister. TSU and TPU successfully defended roadmaps on it.
"Following the meeting, the council recommended the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation to continue providing state support to 21 universities participating in the "5-100" project in 2020. At the same time, universities were divided into three groups, each of which included seven universities", - is reported on the project website.
It is noted that the first group includes Higher School of Economics, ITMO University, National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, National University of Science and Technology "MISiS", Tomsk State University and Novosibirsk State University.

The second group includes Tomsk Polytechnic University, Kazan Federal University, I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University, Ural Federal University, Tyumen State University.
“Thus, the universities of the first group will receive state support in the amount of about 900 million rubles, the second group - about 450 million rubles, and the universities included in the third group - about 120-130 million rubles. In addition, in 2021 it is planned to increase the budget of the program of improving the competitiveness by 5 billion rubles", - the press service of the project said.
It is reported that also following the meeting, the council will formulate recommendations on updating the list of requirements for a new competitive selection of universities that will receive state support aimed at increasing their global competitiveness.
Minister of Science and Higher Education Mikhail Kotyukov emphasized that the list of requirements for the competition will be adjusted to ensure that participants from all federal districts of the country are included in the updated and expanded program of the "5-100" project.
“We expect that about 50-60 universities from different regions will take part in the competitive selection in order to cover all federal districts of the Russian Federation. For this purpose, the selection procedure will be changed and, possibly, the procedure for the provision of federal budget funds will be changed. have to work through these decisions in detail already in the coming month", - Kotyukov is quoted in the message.
