RIA Tomsk. Tomsk Polytechnic University
(TPU) to hold International Week in December – seminar for representatives of
Asia and Europe universities, organized for them to get acquainted with higher
education institutions of Tomsk and the Russian educational system, the head of
TPU international programs and grants department Svetlana Rybushkina told RIA
Tomsk.
According to
her, the unofficial part of the International Week will begin on December 8
with tours across Tomsk. The business and science program starts on December 9
and runs through December 11th.
"For the
first time in the history of TPU such an International Week is being held. This
event is inter-university one, Tomsk universities are invited to it. At the
moment we have 35 registered foreign guests (university community) from Europe
and Asia – this is Belarus, Vietnam, Germany, Latvia, the Netherlands, Poland ,
Portugal, Sweden, Kazakhstan, China, Turkmenistan", – Rybushkina said.
She specified
that representatives of about 20 foreign universities will take part in the
International Week. These are mainly universities with which TPU cooperates on
various projects.
"But there
are those with whom joint projects are just emerging. For example, Nova
University of Lisbon (Portugal) arrives. In general, the goal of the
International Week – is to establish contacts, exchange experience, but, first
of all, this is Tomsk’s positioning as a scientific educational center, in
which a large number of interesting projects are being conducted", – she
emphasized.

"One of our
new collaborations – is University of Wageningen (WUR, the Netherlands), – continues
Rybushkina. – The director of one of our schools, Aleksey Yakovlev,
participated in a fair in Helsinki where he met a professor in agriculture.
This is a topic that TPU is involved in. – "smart greenhouses'. And within
the framework of the International Week, WUR professor will give a lecture".
The interlocutor
of the agency added that the lecture was supported by the Embassy of the
Government of the Netherlands in Russia.
"Representatives
of the Embassy will also come to Tomsk to celebrate the emerging cooperation.
The lecture will be devoted to artificial lighting in greenhouses and growing
plants in vertical greenhouses. WUR – is the leading university in the declared
topic in the world. Our School of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies deals
with the same topic", – Rybushkina said.
She specified
that the lecture will be open to all comers. The organizers will inform about
the time and venue later. But now it’s known that an online broadcast will also
be organized.
