TOMSK, Mar 24 – RIA Tomsk. The Novochem company together with chemists of Tomsk State University (TSU)
will release in addition to the plan more than 100 tons of antibacterial
disinfectants supplied to cleaning companies and medical facilities, production
growth is associated with the threat of the spread of coronavirus, the
university’s press service said on Tuesday.
It is noted that the produced disinfectants are effective against bacteria,
including pathogens of nosocomial infections, tuberculosis mycobacteria,
Candida fungi, dermatophytes, viruses, HIV infection, and acute respiratory
viral infections. They can be used to process rooms in hospitals, disinfect
surfaces, sanitary equipment and carry out general cleaning.
Novochem together with TSU chemists will release an additional 100 tons of
disinfectants by the end of March, which is significantly more than the usual
production volume. The products will be shipped to a wide range of consumers,
including Moscow cleaning companies, medical institutions, beauty salons and
other organizations", – is said in the report.
It is specified that now the company produces six products developed
jointly with chemists of TSU, half of which are used in agriculture, and half –
in everyday life and medicine. Last year, about 15 tons of disinfectants were
released, this year it was planned to reach a volume of 30-40 tons.
"The global problem of coronavirus posed a challenge - to urgently
increase the release of disinfectants. It was not easy because of the logistic
problems and difficulties in the supply of raw materials. But now we can say
with confidence that we are ready to fully provide our consumers with
disinfectants", – the director of the TSU Engineering Chemical
Technological Center (TSU ECTC) Alexey Knyazev is quoted in the message.
It is added that coronavirus – is an enveloped virus, and it is completely
inactivated by 70% alcohol (ethanol, isopropanol), on the basis of which
household antiseptics are made. According to the press service, the surfaces
can also be treated with alcohol, but it will not kill all bacteria, and the
consumption of the product will be very high.

It was previously reported that an outbreak of pneumonia caused by a new
type of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 was recorded in Wuhan, China at the end of 2019.
On March 11, WHO announced a coronavirus pandemic. Doctors discovered a
coronavirus infection in the first patient of the Tomsk region on March 18. On
the same day, a high alert regime was introduced in the region. Universities
and colleges are transferred to the distance learning format, mass events are
prohibited.
