TOMSK, May
12 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) on Tuesday signed a
cooperation agreement with the Tomsk National Research Medical Center (TNRMC)
and the MedInvestGroup group of companies; a nuclear medicine research center
will be created on the basis of TPU, a RIA Tomsk correspondent reported from
the scene.
According
to Kommersant, MedInvestGroup invests in regional projects in the field of the
manufacture of cancer drugs and the construction of nuclear medical centers.
Until 2025, the company plans to invest in the opening of 40 new cancer centers
in Russia more than 20 billion rubles.
Overcome
the deficit
As a RIA
Tomsk correspondent clarifies from the scene, a trilateral agreement between
TPU, TNRMC and MedInvestGroup was signed on Tuesday, May 12, in the main
building of Tomsk Polytechnic University.
"Man
would not want to create a commercial nuclear medicine center in Tomsk. There
is a rather strong scientific and material and technical base of Tomsk
Polytechnic University... There are no such centers in Russia where several
directions (of activities) will be combined, it will be the first one", –
the project manager of MedInvestGroup Victor Babikov said RIA Tomsk.
He
specified that the center will train personnel – not only doctors, but also
medical physicists - for the entire nuclear medicine industry in Russia. The
center plans to develop new radiopharmaceuticals, their further launch in
industrial production, as well as export of drugs, primarily to the Kemerovo and
Novosibirsk regions.

"The
creation of a scientific center here in Tomsk is very important for us, because
those radiopharmaceuticals that are already used in Russia are often
insufficient. Therefore, we want to expand their spectrum to different groups
of patients, to create fundamentally new substances", – Babikov added.
According
to the official website, MedInvestGroup – is an investment company engaged in
the creation and development of large-scale medical projects. The main task –
is to provide the population with affordable, high-tech medical care.
On the
basis of Polytechnic University
According
to the press service of TPU, the PET-Technology nuclear medicine research
center is supposed to be located on the 11th building of the university on
Lenin Avenue, 2a.
"Tomsk
Polytechnic University has been dealing with this topic for a long time
together with our Tomsk Research Institute, together with organizations in
which experts in the field of nuclear medicine are in demand, therefore, all
the prerequisites here have already been created for a long time so that this
center opens here (in TPU)... We hope that during the year we will do the main
components of the project", – the first vice-rector of TPU Andrey Yakovlev
said.
Earlier it
was reported that the TPU Nuclear Research Reactor is the only operating university
nuclear reactor in Russia. In 2019, the university launched the Nuclear Science
and Technology master's degree program which combines the management of a
nuclear power plant and nuclear medicine. Tomsk Polytechnic University received
about 90 million rubles from the Ministry of Education and Science of the
Russian Federation for the modernization of the nuclear reactor in 2019.
It was also
previously reported that TPU scientists launched the first in Russia production
of lutetium-177 with a low content of lutetium-178 at the TPU Nuclear Research
Reactor. These isotopes are the basis of radiopharmaceuticals for radiation
therapy of malignant tumors. In addition, polytechnics began mass production
and export of a diagnostic drug for oncology and cardiology based on the
technetium-99m isotope in 2020.
