22 – RIA Tomsk.Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) does not plan to postpone
the start of the new academic year and expects students to start classes from
September 1, the university’s press service said on Friday.
Earlier it
was reported that due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Ministry of Education of
the Russian Federation moved the date for the USE from spring to a later date.
Only those eleventh graders who intend to enter higher education institutions
will be taking it in 2020. On Thursday, May 21, President Vladimir Putin
announced the start of the USE for applicants to universities from June 29.
"The
exact start date for the USE has been determined. This makes it possible to
adjust the admission campaign, prepare for the new academic year and start it
on September 1. The shift in the deadlines for August will give applicants and
universities extra time so that anyone interested in higher education can go to
universities", – the first vice-rector of TPU Andrey Yakovlev is quoted.
He
emphasized that the pandemic and related restrictions have highlighted the
urgent need to tackle the digitalization of higher education. Since March 17,
12 thousand students and graduate students have gone to distance learning at
TPU. All classes at the university are held in webinar mode, access to more
than 1.2 thousand online courses in LMSMoodle is open. A session and diploma
defense will also be organized online.
According
to Yakovlev, TPU from the very beginning of the transition to distant provides
technical and methodological support to other educational organizations in the
Tomsk region and beyond.
Thus, TPU
experts conducted webinars for school teachers and additional education
teachers, and provided their resources to students of other universities.
Specialists of Tomsk Polytechnic University have created a special LSM Moodle
server for the work of teachers and students of Sevastopol State University,
where they placed digital resources developed at TPU.
