TOMSK, Jul 9 – RIA Tomsk. The Tomsk region’s authorities and the Iranian embassy to create a working group promoting joint projects; according to the results of 2019, region’s trade turnover with the republic amounted to 285 thousand US dollars – insignificant in total mass, but volume of transactions is growing, the press service of the regional administration said.
According to the press service, on July 9, the governor of the Tomsk region Sergey Zhvachkin and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation Kazem Jalali, who was appointed to this post in December 2019, held a meeting via videoconference. The subject of discussion was the trade and economic interaction of the region with the Islamic Republic. Currently, it occupies an insignificant share in the region’s commodity circulation, but this volume is growing.
"The Tomsk governor and the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran have agreed to create a joint working group which will propose the most effective points of contact for the consideration of the head of the region and the head of the diplomatic mission. From the Tomsk side, the deputy governor for economy Andrey Antonov will coordinate the work of the working group", – is said in the statement.

It is clarified that in 2016 the region’s trade with Iran amounted to only 40 thousand US dollars, and in 2019 – already 285 thousand. The main cooperation is carried out in the service sector, mainly in the field of research and development. Jalali noted the great potential of the Tomsk region in information, bio- and nanotechnology, chemical industry and mechanical engineering.
"The most active cooperation with Iran is carried by the Micran research and production company, Oil Team oilfield services company, "Manotom'" enterprise. In the scientific and educational complex, National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University builds relations with the Islamic Republic most intensively", – says the release.
Also, in the field of science and technology, Institute of High Current Electronics SB RAS works with Iranian partners, the press service added.
