TOMSK, Jul 27 – RIA Tomsk. The postgraduate school "Siberia and the Arctic" of Tomsk State University (TSU), launched on the basis of the Big University, together with other Tomsk and foreign universities will train specialists in the field of environmental studies, the press service of the university said on Monday.
Earlier it was reported that Tomsk Big University announced the recruitment of 13 postgraduate schools for the new academic year, TSU oversees the work of three such schools.
"The postgraduate school "Siberia and the Arctic" will improve the training of young scientists through cooperation of TSU with other Tomsk universities. This will allow the implementation of joint scientific projects and improve the quality of research on the environment, climate change and biodiversity of Siberia and the Arctic", – the press service said.
Under the guidance of leading scientists, postgraduate students will develop such scientific areas as landscape ecology, research of the Arctic shelf, biodiversity, climate change, biogeochemical cycles of lakes and swamps, and others. Young scientists will work with world-class professors from Russian and foreign universities, in particular, Professor of the University of Sheffield and TSU Terry Callaghan.

"Earth sciences – is the direction in which we are world leaders. Siberia, as a natural mega-installation, – is our own collider, which has no analogues in the world... This makes it a convenient platform for studying climate change and anthropogenic impact", – the press service quotes the head of the school, director of the TSU Center of excellence "BioClimLand" Sergey Kirpotin.
It is specified that within the framework of joint training of scientific personnel, Tomsk universities organize joint conferences, seminars, lectures with invited experts. In addition, postgraduate students will work in the international network SecNet, created under the auspices of TSU to study environmental transformation.
The "Big University" project was launched in the Tomsk region in 2019. All universities and research institutes participate in it with the preservation of autonomy and legal independence. The main goal of the project – is to obtain a synergistic effect from the addition of scientific, educational and infrastructural opportunities for full-fledged competition with world university centers.
