TOMSK, Aug 3 – RIA Tomsk. Young people from Laos studying at Moscow universities visited Tomsk State University (TSU), where the largest diaspora of Lao students in the Russian Federation is studying, the press service of Tomsk university said on Monday.
According to the press service, currently 65 students and postgraduates from Laos are studying at TSU, this is the largest diaspora of Lao students in the Russian Federation.
"TSU was visited by a group of Lao students studying at RUDN (Peoples' Friendship University of Russia), MADI (Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University), Pushkin Institute and other Moscow universities. <...> In the conditions of coronavirus, Lao students could not leave for their homeland, so in the summer they went on a trip around Russia", – is said in the message.
In Tomsk, students met with fellow countrymen from different cities, got acquainted with the architecture of Tomsk and the campus of state university, played a friendly football match. According to guests' reviews, they were impressed by the convenient location of the university buildings. In Moscow, students often spend a lot of time getting from one university building to another. In that sense, TSU students are in much more comfortable conditions.

As noted in the message, TSU is popular in Laos. "Returning home with a TSU diploma, our graduates often occupy high positions in city administrations, ministries and organizations. The quality of education that TSU provides is highly valued in Laos, so middle and upper class families send their children to study here", – TSU Vice-Rector for International Affairs Artyom Rykun is quoted.
According to the university, the most popular are educational programs related to the management of economic processes or municipal government. Therefore, the majority of Lao students and postgraduate students study at the Faculty of Historical and Political Studies and at the Institute of Economics and Management. In addition, the IT direction is in demand.
Earlier it was reported that, according to the Times Higher Education international ranking at the beginning of 2020, TSU has become the most international university in Russia. The experts evaluated the number of foreign university staff and international students, the number of scientific publications co-authored with foreign scientists, and the university's international reputation.
