TOMSK, Aug 27 – RIA Tomsk. Chemists of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) and their colleagues synthesized new organic magnetic compounds that in the future could replace silicon and metal in the production of electronics, the press service of the university said on Thursday.

The release states that scientists from the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Novosibirsk State University are also involved in this work. Together, scientists have synthesized new stable organic radicals with magnetic properties. The first such compounds were created in 1985, but there are still not many of them.

"It is extremely difficult to obtain such compounds. Scientists have applied a new approach to synthesis, which has reduced the number of stages and simplified the process. The results of the work have been published in one of the most prestigious scientific journals in chemistry - Angewandte Chemie International Edition (IF: 12.959; Q1)", - says the report.

It is explained that of all organic magnets, stable radicals are considered the most promising - molecules that lack one electron. In their research, TPU scientists and colleagues are looking for ways to combine stable radicals with each other. In this work, they presented three new molecules at once.

"Each new molecule of this type can be called an event in the world of organic chemistry. One of the resulting molecules is of particular interest due to the combination of stability (withstands heating up to 200 degrees Celsius) and properties. For example, a molecule has a high spin exchange between two radicals, included in its composition", - the press service said.

The researchers note that they will look for opportunities for practical application of the obtained compounds. According to them, in the future, organic magnets can become an alternative to silicon and metals used in electronics.
