TOMSK, Sep 18 – RIA Tomsk. Wi-Fi eduroam zones, which are being deployed at universities and scientific organizations around the world, have appeared at Tomsk State University (TSU); from now on, guests, students and university staff will be able to access the Internet under their account for free, the press service of the university reported on Friday.
It clarifies that eduroam (education roaming) is a service of secure and free international roaming in Wi-Fi networks for the scientific and educational community, developed by the pan-European research and education network GÉANT. It gives students, teachers and researchers the opportunity to go online for free and connect to the resources of scientific and educational networks.
"Within the framework of the "Digital University" project, Wi-Fi eduroam zones have appeared at TSU, which are deployed at universities and scientific organizations around the world. Now TSU guests under their account will be able to access the Internet for free. In Russia, the national operator of the service is the Joint Supercomputer Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (JSCC RAS)", - the report said.

One can use this service both at universities in Russia and abroad - on the campuses of those organizations that, according to concluded agreements, are participants of the eduroam project. The user enters the network from any device using an individual login and password. They are issued by its "home" organization (in Tomsk this is TSU), says the message.
"The eduroam service has appeared at TSU since the summer of 2020, at the end of August we have already fully launched it. So far we are a service provider, in the future we will also provide our users with credentials to access eduroam around the world", - the press service quoted the leading programmer of the center of information networks of management of information and telecommunication infrastructure of TSU Sergey Rudenko
At the same time, there will be no eduroam system at TSU dormitories in the near future - it is intended specifically for the university buildings. Now the system operates in the main building, in the second, fourth, sixth buildings, there are several points at the SPTI. As the Wi-Fi network of TSU develops, this service will be available in all educational buildings, says the message.
