TSU will train leaders in teaching English on Coursera

TOMSK, Feb 8 – RIA Tomsk.Tomsk State University (TSU) will open an online master's degree program on Coursera in 2021; it will be the world's first program to train future leaders in English language teaching, the university's website reported on Monday.

It is specified that the program is called Global MA in English Language Teaching (ELT) Leadership. Residents from all over the world who want to develop as ELT professionals can apply for training. The training will last two years - entirely online, with additional winter and summer schools.

"A global master's program will be launched on the Coursera platform in September 2021. <...> The world's first and only program to train future leaders in teaching English. Students will be offered a wide range of modules: they will be able to create their own degree programs that reflect their educational interests and professional plans", – says the message.

It is added that the master's degree program will be of interest to those who are already working or planning to work in universities and colleges, education departments, general education and language schools, publishing houses or other organizations with an ELT profile.

"The opening of this kind of programs exactly in linguistic education is not accidental, since it is language and communication skills that become defining for a modern specialist at international industrial platforms and, accordingly, are in high demand", – Dean of the TSU Faculty of Foreign Languages Olga Nagel is quoted in the message.

It is noted that about 50% of the teachers in the program are employees from Oxford, Sheffield, Shanghai, Stockholm. After completing the online program, students will get a master's degree from TSU.
