TOMSK, Apr 28 – RIA Tomsk.
During the COVID-19 epidemic, the number of participants in the
conference "Scientific Initiative of International Students and
Postgraduates" held at Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) increased by
almost a third, reaching 280 in 2021, Head of the Department of Russian
as a Foreign Language Evgeniya Sherina told RIA Tomsk on Wednesday.
"Last
year, we were one of the first in Russia to hold this conference in
April in an online format, although we were expecting everyone in
person. This year we are also holding an online conference. When it was
in person, guys from other cities came to us, but there were not so many
speakers, but now everyone has the opportunity to make a presentation
so that they can listen to and ask questions. There are advantages (in
the online format – Ed.)", – Sherina said.
According to her,
about 200 people took part in the conference in previous years. This
year there are more than 280 international students from 65
universities. Participants are residents of 49 countries of the world,
including China, Indonesia, Egypt, Italy, Poland, Colombia, Sudan and
others. Only one section is held in English – for those who study in
English-language programs at Russian universities.
"All
other students prepare articles, reports for publications, speak and
make presentations in Russian. Not only those who are already fluent in
Russian – undergraduates and postgraduates, but also students of
preparatory departments who study Russian for the first year from zero,
they are just getting ready to enter, but they are already taking the
first step into science, for them it is difficult, but very useful", –
the agency's interlocutor said.

Young scientists discuss
modern and dynamically developing areas of science, including in the
fields of ecology, agriculture, food industry, 3D modeling and others.
In addition, many reports are a description of fundamental works, the
results of which can both contribute to the further development of
sciences and have practical application.
On Thursday,
within the framework of the conference, an all-Russian round table of
international students and graduate students "Multicultural digital
space: challenges, risks, prospects" will be held.
