TOMSK, May 21 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State University (TSU) and the Institute of Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IFES RAS) opened the Center for Science and Innovation Research in East Asia and the Asia-Pacific Region (APR), which will explore the development trends of the Asian region and promote Russian technology on its market, the TSU website said.

It is specified that the agreement was signed by TSU Rector Eduard Galazhinsky and the Institute's Acting Director Alexey Maslov.

"The Center for Science and Innovation Research in East Asia and the Asia-Pacific Region has been established at TSU. The new center will engage in expert research on science and innovation in East Asia and the Asia-Pacific region. The team will also initiate projects and programs in education, science and innovation and provide consulting services," the statement said.

According to the press service, work of the Сenter will be focused on China, Indonesia and Vietnam. At the initial stage, three employees from each side will join the center, and master's and PhD students will also be involved in the work.

"TSU, by virtue of its geographical location, has always served as a kind of bridge between Europe and Asia, dealing with the formation of a single Eurasian cultural and scientific space. That is why TSU traditionally combines two scientific mentality: western and eastern," Galazhinsky is quoted in the message.

According to Maslov, the agreement on cooperation between the academic institution and the institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences demonstrates the connection between the academic and educational process: "In general in Russia, and in the region in particular, there is a lack of expertise on Asia. And our task is also to create a center of expertise as such. The task is also to promote Russian technologies to Asian markets."
