TOMSK, Sep 16 – RIA
Tomsk. Tomsk Micran is in talks with a potential investor to invest 4 billion
rubles to set up a microelectronics factory in the Priority Social and Economic
Development Area (PSEDA) of Seversk; the facility will meet the country's
demand for power semiconductors, which are unavailable due to international
sanctions, Micran's CEO Vera Paramonova told.
As previously
reported by Izvestia, electronics companies faced a global shortage of
semiconductor chips in 2020. The demand was driven by the transition of many
industries to work remotely and a surge in demand for smartphones, tablets,
laptops and computers.
"The demand is
very high, that's why we want to build our own microelectronics factory here in
the Seversk PSEDA, where TUSUR will participate as a supplier of employees...
(The factory) will produce microchips, which are now in short supply. Plus it
is also (is a response to) sanctions that have shut down our sales of certain
microelectronic components. All of that we will produce," Paramonova said.
She noted that
investments in the project are estimated at 4 billion rubles, and to deploy the
production at full capacity, according to the business plan of Micran, it is
possible in three years: "We are actively looking for an investor. This is
a long process, but I think we will start building in a year."
"We have our own
factory at Krasnoarmeyskaya in the Research Institute for Semiconductor Devices
building, where we produce electronic components... This development is our
internal investment. A large amount was invested there, about 3 billion rubles,"
the Director General added. She also clarified that the new production will
meet the needs of domestic electronics manufacturers in high-frequency power
semiconductors.
Earlier it was
reported that in 2019 the authorities of the Russian Federation established in
Closed Administrative-Territorial Unit Seversk a PSEDA with specialization in
high-tech chemistry, medical industry, nuclear materials, mechanical
engineering and IT. Each resident who invests at least 10 million rubles in
production receives benefits: contributions to the social insurance fund – 7.6%
instead of 30%, profit tax – 5% instead of 20%. As of April, 12 residents were
registered in the PSEDA.
