TOMSK, Oct 7 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk Polytechnic University
(TPU) conducts excursions to mining building, mineralogical and paleontological
museums on October 10, Birthday of Academician Vladimir Obruchev, the first
dean of mining department; there will be a screening of film "Sannikov
Land", based on famous novel of the scientist, university's press service
said on Thursday.
"The outstanding polytechnic, geologist,
paleontologist, geographer and author of the famous novels "Sannikov
Land" and "Plutonium" Vladimir Obruchev would have turned 158
years old on October 10. On the birthday of the legendary scientist, the TPU
Museum Complex prepared a special program," the report said.
So, there will be excursions "The Secret of the
mining building" at 13.00 and 15.00, where university staff will talk
about the life and work of Obruchev. Tomsk residents also walk along the Alley
of Geologists, visit the Memorial Office of Vladimir Obruchev – Mikhail Usov, a
large mining classroom and the residential wing entrance in the mining building
of the TPU.
Also at 13.00 and 15.00 there will be excursions to
the mineralogical and paleontological museums of TPU, where visitors will get
acquainted with the collection of minerals and see how the animal and plant
world of the Earth developed.
"At 17.00 there will be a screening of the Soviet
adventure film" Sannikov Land". The idea of the film is based on the
science fiction novel by Vladimir Obruchev "Sannikov Land", the press
service added.

Vladimir Obruchev (1863-1056) is a Russian and Soviet
geologist, geographer, traveler, writer. From 1901 to 1912 he worked at the
Tomsk Institute of Technology (the current TPU) and was the first dean of its
mining department.
