Scientists from Siberia and Germany created films, which grow up bones

TOMSK, Jan 25 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU), Krasnoyarsk Institute of biophysics SB RAS and several German scientific centers found a way to replace the damaged organism fabrics with biopolymers, which are dissolved and help to restore the damaged sites, official group of Krasnoyarsk scientific research institute in Facebook reported.

"Scientists from Tomsk and Krasnoyarsk and their colleague from Germany received samples by means of plasma processing of films from biopolymer. They provide strong coupling of polymer with cells of connective tissue (fibroblastama) and support their growth", – it is told in the post.

It is explained that within several years Krasnoyarsk biophysics successfully work with the polyhydroxybutyrate – the degradable plastics, which is formed in cages of some microorganisms, "when they feel bad". Then the biopolymer is emitted from bacterial biomass, cleared and used, for example, people make coverings for wounds, designs for restoration of cartilages and joints, orthopedic pins.

"It is important that the artificial design interacted with the living cells surrounding it in a body of a person. The purpose of similar interventions <…> is to replace the damaged site of fabric or body with the product from biopolymer. Over time, thanks to biological compatibility of the material, the joint or other site of a body is restored," – it is noted in the message.

However, according to the institute, for achievement of the goal it is necessary to modernize the material definitely: initially its surface of is hydrophobic – isn't moistened with liquids, that means it interacts with organism cages badly. The scientists suggested to process the polymer with plasma discharge in the atmosphere of pure oxygen or ammonia.

The researches showed that the films are capable to support formation of connective tissue in an organism at such influence. Until tests carried out only on films, in the future, the scientists plan to pass to processing of implants, and in "near future ", they hope for clinical tests and introduction of the development in applied medicine.
