TOMSK, Apr 3 – RIA Tomsk. Students of Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR) are looking for a way to modernize existing exoskeletons, so that they become more stable and suitable for people with infantile cerebral paralysis, the university press service said on Monday.

It is explained that now exoskeletons are not suitable for patients with cerebral palsy because they can not keep their body vertically. In addition, you need to use crutches or a control panel, because of what hands of the patient are constantly busy.

"TUSUR young scientists received a grant according to the UMNIK program to develop a system for adapting existing exoskeletons for people diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The task which the developers set for themselves, <…> – is to create a system with the possibility of introducing it in any exoskeleton, after which it can be used the "free hands" mode, - is said in the message.

It is specified that the idea was offered by students of the Department of Telecommunications and Basic Principles of Radio Engineering Evgeny Mishchenko and Pavel Sirenko. They intend to improve the system for an exoskeleton so that it always kept balance, and for this purpose the device has to define position, fix and independently regulate it in real time.

"To read the position of a body in space, we will use the available devices - gyroscopes, with which it is possible to equip an exoskeleton, and at the same time they practically do not affect the final weight of the entire device. Gyroscopes constantly read the position, transferring this data to a board that generates control signals for drives of the exoskeleton", - developers are quoted in the message.

It is added that it is also necessary to create the software which will be able to read out correctly the indications of gyroscopes, separating useful information from noise and to regulate the movements of exoskeleton. Now TUSUR students are collecting an experimental prototype of the device and analyzing the gait of healthy people. To solve the tasks, they plan to identify with the physicians the peculiarities of the gait of patients with cerebral palsy.
