TOMSK, Aug 7 – RIA Tomsk. Paleontologists of Tomsk State University (TSU) during the expedition in Krasnoyarsk Krai found unknown earlier location of dinosaurs and mammoths in Big Ilek quarry; according to scientists, this quarry is similar to the largest Russian congestion of dinosaur and mammoth fauna located in the Kemerovo region, the press service of university reports.
It is noted that the detailed stratigraphic description of all thickness of the quarry was the main task of the trip, bat not search of fossil organisms. However, in the course of the geological researches scientists managed to find the remains of large herbivorous (presumably, sauropods and stegosaurs) and predatory dinosaurs. In "the mammoths level" bones of mammoths, rhinoceroses and predators are found.
"Concerning the remains of mammoth’s fauna … it is generally fragments though their conditions of occurrence are subaerial – that is they are buried not in water, bat in the land surface. As a rule, bones are found weathered in such cases, but rather whole, and practically all bones are broken here. We haven't found bites of predators therefore, perhaps, also ancient people "worked" here", – the chief of the expedition Sergey Leshchinsky is quoted.
According to him, so far, Big Ilek was almost "mute", there was only a rare pollen of extinct plants in its ancient sediments. Now a Mesozoic part of the quarry has paleontological justification of the age – Early Cretaceous (possibly, 120-100 million years ago). It reminds Shestakovsky Yar in the Kemerovo region on its structure – one of the largest congestions of dinosaurs and mammoth fauna in Russia.Earlier it was reported that scientists and students of TSU who were carrying out excavation on one of the largest burials of mammoths in Eurasia – in the tract of the Wolf's Mane near Novosibirsk, come across sites with high concentration of bones of mammoths in 2016. Concentration on one "square" at a thickness of sediments to a half a meter exceeded 100 bones. The scientists revealed not only the remains of at least eight mammoths, but also a bison, a horse, a fox or a polar fox, and rodents from 785 found finds.
