TOMSK, Apr 18 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists from the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) giving lectures at the Trans-Siberian school on high energy physics at Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) didn't expect "such interest and level of training" from students, director of School of physics of high-energy processes of TPU Igor Stepanov told journalists on Wednesday.

Trans-Siberian school on high energy physics passes in TPU from April 16 to April 20. During this time it will accept more than 100 participants who will be able to work on three sections. Within the first – youth – results of scientific works performed within cooperation of TPU with CERN were presented and lectures of scientists of CERN for students of the university took place.

"It is unique experience for us. As far as I remember there was no such schools in Tomsk. Itis a stress and shock in good sense. Lectures start from 09:00 to the late evening, but we are surprised – the audience is full from morning to evening. Questions are set both during lectures and after lectures. Teachers, they are representatives of the leading world universities, didn't expect such interest and level of training from students in the field of physics of elementary particles", – Stepanov told.

TPU young scientists engaged in CERN physics for the first time
As the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of TPU Alexander Wagner specified to journalists, the language barrier didn't prevent students of the university to communicate with representatives of CERN. "I assure you that preparation of English in TPU is put so qualitatively that students can easily speak English after a third year", – he said, having noted that the high level of students is also about "technical English" (with use of special technical terms).

As the adviser to the CEO of CERN Christoph Schaefer noted at the plenary session devoted to the youth block "it is very important to attract young people to science", and not only students, but also pupils.

"We even have programs for pupils. Every year we hold a competition and we accept pupils in CERN. We have a laboratory, which allows pupils to make various experiments, including radiation experiences. Pupils of any schools will be able to arrive to CERN if they desire", – he told.
