TOMSK, Jul 17 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) is among prestigious engineering universities of the world according to Shanghai ranking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (ARWU) – university got into one group with universities of France, Finland and Israel in the Engineering area in the subject Instruments Science & Technology, press service of TPU reported.
Earlier it was reported that Tomsk universities – TPU and Tomsk State University – have for the first time entered the ARWU ranking in 2017. TPU was included by experts in group 151-200 on mechanical engineering. Universities are estimated on effectiveness of scientific activity, thematic index of citing, international cooperation, number of publications in leading magazines, scientific awards and awards of the international level.
According to TPU, experts estimated positions of more than four thousand universities in 54 objects in five fields of knowledge: "Engineering", "Natural Sciences", "Life Sciences", "Social Sciences" and "Medical Sciences" in 2018.
"Tomsk Polytechnic University is presented in subject domain "Engineering" in the subject Instruments Science & Technology, having taken a position in group of 201-300 world universities.Such universities, known in the world, as École Polytechnique (France), Aalto (Finland), Technion (Israel) entered this group on this direction", – it is said in the statement.
It is noted that the subject ranking ARWU included 17 Russian universities. They are presented in 11 directions in the field of knowledge "Engineering". Tomsk Polytechnic University concedes only to the Moscow and St. Petersburg state universities on nine of them. Today the university doesn't work in two directions of subject domain – "Metallurgical Engineering" and "Mining & Mineral Engineering".Earlier it was also reported that TPU rose in the rating QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) from group 600+ up to 373 lines in 2018 in five years. The university got the 21st place in the ranking Times Higher Education (THE) for developing countries, having improved the positions more than twice in comparison with result of 2017.
