TOMSK, Aug 3 – RIA Tomsk. The new structural unit – the Faculty of Historical and Political Sciences (FHPS) – was created at Tomsk State University (TSU); the new faculty appeared thanks to merge of Faculty of History and department of political science, earlier concerned to Faculty of Philosophy, the press-service of the university reports on Friday.
Earlier it was reported that there are 20 faculties and educational institutions in the TSU structure, three research institutes and 38 pre-university training centers. Almost 16 thousand students study in the university in 135 directions and specialties, 738 graduate students, 115 of which are foreigners, more than 100 doctoral students in 36 specialties. Education in the postgraduate programs is conducted in 20 curricula, seven programs of which with dual leadership.
"At TSU a new division is created – the Faculty of Historical and Political Sciences (FHPS) .The historians' initiative – is the result of the faculty's development. The main structural change was the accession of the department of political science to the Faculty of History", – is said in the report.
It is explained that together with the department of political science, the corresponding direction of the preparation of students, as well as 10 teachers and about 70 students, specializing in the study of political sciences, has been transferred to the new faculty of TSU."The Faculty of History was actually historical until 1992. Then (were opened) ... "International Relations", "International Area Studies", "Russian Area Studies", "Document and Archive Science", "Anthropology and Ethnology"... We needed a new positioning to attract students and partners", – the press service quoted the dean of the FHPS Evgeny Lukov.
According to the dean, the unification of educational programs on historical and political subjects within the framework of the faculty will help to improve the political training of historians and strengthen the historical part of political scientists. The plans of the FIPN – are to create seminars and a dissertation council on political sciences.
