TOMSK, Feb 27 – RIA Tomsk. The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) agency published five annual subject rankings of world universities; Tomsk State University (TSU) came close to the one hundred best universities in modern languages, Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) again improved its position in the key ranking for itself – "Engineering and Technology", follows from the QS data.
Earlier it was reported that the QS World University Rankings is based on academic reputation, results of research activities of universities and reputation of university among employers.
As follows from the materials of QS, 1222 universities of the world were evaluated on five subject ratings: "Humanities and Art", "Engineering and Technology", "Life Sciences and Medicine", "Natural Science", "Social Sciences & Management". In each of them were evaluated achievements of universities in a number of disciplines, the total number of which is 48.
TSU: modern languages, linguistics and physics
In the subject area "Humanities and Art" TSU rose by several points, according to the results of the 2019 ranking, taking the 264th place (in 2018 - 289 position). The greatest breakthrough in this subject area was achieved in the field of research of modern languages – on this subject TSU moved to the group 101-150 (in 2018 it took the position 201-250). In addition, in the "Linguistics" direction TSU for the first time entered the rating, at the same time taking high positions, entering the group 151-200.
In the subject area "Natural Sciences" TSU took the 264th place (in 2018 – 293). In this area, achievements in chemistry, sciences about Earth and environmental sciences, geography, mathematics, physics, and materials science are taken into account. Thus, TSU scientists retained high positions in the subject ranking in the group 201-250 in physics and astronomy.
For the first time Tosmk State University was ranked in the category "Materials Science" (301-350 group) and "Engineering and Chemistry" (251-300); also, the university retained positions in "Informatics" and "Chemistry" (451-500 groups).

TPU: School of Engineers
According to the agency, in 2019 TPU continued to ascend in the "firm" for itself subject rating "Engineering and Technology" and took the 277th place among all universities in the world. In the "Natural Sciences" subject rating Tomsk University is still in the group 401-450.
In the rankings for scientific disciplines TPU ranged from 201 to 550 positions. The university enters the group 201-250 in the disciplines of "Chemical Engineering" (position has not changed) and "Engineering" (position better than in 2018: 250-300). TPU received a higher score in the discipline "Chemistry" – 401-450 group (in 2018 it was 451-500). In the discipline "Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Physics" it moved to the group 351-400 (in 2018 - 301-350).
In 2019 TPU for the first time noted by experts in the disciplines of "Materials Science" (301-350 group), "Business and Management" (451-500 group) and "Computer Science" (501-550 group).
