TOMSK, May 20 – RIA Tomsk. TSU scientific teams help KAMAZ to improve the alloy used in the manufacture of engines; material scientists, physicists and chemists will be working on the project and will need 6 to 9 months to develop technologies, the head of the TSU department of innovations in the sphere of science, equipment and technologies Mikhail Golovatov told RIA Tomsk.

He said that the Tomsk State University (TSU) delegation visited the main production of KAMAZ in Naberezhnye Chelny, where scientists traveled at the invitation of the chief technologist Fyodor Nazarov and the chief designer Sergey Nazarenko. Partners helped to establish cooperation – Siberian Alliance group of companies.

"As a result we agreed that we will launch R&D (research and development work) in two directions together with the company, and there will be more development work there", – Golovatov said, noting that TSU and KAMAZ had already signed the NDA (non-disclosure agreement of confidential information), in June the parties hope to enter into negotiations to conclude an agreement.

TSU scientists create unique alloys on the basis of magnesium matrix
The first direction of cooperation – is new light alloys with desired physical properties, which KAMAZ needs to improve engine performance and increase its durability. "Material scientists of the Faculty of Physics and Engineering, chemists of Faculty of Chemistry, group that is engaged in mathematical modeling at the Scientific Research Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics will work on this project. The second topic - is new welding methods", – Golovatov said.

"There are 6-9 months of clean work (of scientists): in the TSU there is a very large scientific and technical reserve for light alloys (aluminum, magnesium, etc.), this topic has been developing for 30-40 years, Faculty of Physics and Engineering has been actively working with the foundry divisions of the Research and Production Center "Polyus" of the TEMP. So they already have an understanding of how to get an alloy with the necessary characteristics", – the interlocutor of the agency told.

He specified that the negotiation process still has to decide how the auto giant will use Tomsk developments: either the plant will receive intellectual property based on the results of work, becoming its sole owner, or acquire a license to use in production and will regularly deduct royalties.
