TOMSK, May 11 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk Polytechnical University (TPU) and University
of Burgundy - Franche-Comté (France) will cooperate in the field of training of
engineers; on Thursday universities concluded the relevant agreement, tells the
correspondent of RIA Tomsk.

Tomsk reports, the TPU rector Petr Chubik and the president of the French
university Nicolas Chaillet signed the protocol on intentions for international
cooperation on Thursday.
"One of the largest
universities of France is similar to us in the fact that it is also
non-capital, and participates in program (in France), which is almost similar
to program of increase the competitiveness of the Russian universities
<…> It is similar to our consortium in Tomsk, since it unites six
universities and research centers", - said Chubik before signing the
protocol.

He specified that TPU and
University of Burgundy have been cooperating for 10 years. "We have
already outlined a number of areas for further cooperation in the educational
and scientific spheres. I think you know that the French have a very
high-quality engineering school, and therefore we have something to learn. They
implement a number of similar programs", - said Chubik.
According to him, the
delegation of University of Burgundy will work in Tomsk for three days to
determine more specific areas of cooperation. In particular, universities plan
to create at least one joint program of double diplomas, and also intend to
participate in foreign grant competitions and try to get a megagrant in Russia.
Besides, French are interested
in the developments of TPU in the field of nanotechnology. In turn, Chaillet
explained that University of Burgundy is interested in cooperation with Tomsk
Polytechnic University, since the Siberian university trains qualitative
experts. "We chose TPU because it has a huge experience in training",
- he emphasized.
