TOMSK, May 17 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk scientists found a golden
mean between fundamental and applied research, the acting governor of the Tomsk
region Sergey Zhvachkin considers.
Earlier it was reported that the IV Forum of Young Scientists U-NOVUS
officially opened in Tomsk on Wednesday. It will be held from 17 to 19 May at
several venues in the city center, for the sake of what the movement will be
partially restricted. Within the framework of the forum are planned the
championship final on robotics RoboCup Russia Open, the ScienceGame, an
exhibition of young scientists' developments. It is assumed that about two
thousand people will take part in U-NOVUS.
"We found a golden mean between fundamental research and applied
developments. <…> We are doing a lot of things to create decent working
conditions, first of all, for the young scientists. We involve large
businesses, venture funds, state programs. And the most important thing – is
the fact that we create conditions for the life of young people. And Tomsk
entered the top 100 cities of the world for students", – Zhvachkin said at
the opening of the forum.

He also noted that in a year since the forum in 2016, Tomsk State University
and Tomsk Polytechnic University improved their positions in international
rankings, and Siberian State Medical University, is the only from medical
university of the Russian Federation, become one of the supporting ones. In
addition, over the past four years the number of places in the magistracy of
Tomsk universities grew twice – up to 3.78 thousand.
Tomsk young scientists achieved considerable success, for example, received 26
grants of the Russian President. According to Zhvachkin, this is one of the
highest rates in the country. He added that for this year in Tomsk it was
possible to complete the creation of the national research medical center which
main task is to accelerate the introduction of developments in practice.
