TOMSK, Dec 14 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State (TSU) and Polytechnic (TPU) universities and Siberian State Medical University (SSMU) completed competitive selection and became participants of the project of the Ministry of Education and Science "Universities as the centers of space of innovations creation", the vice governor on economy Andrey Antonov reported RIA Tomsk on Thursday.

Earlier it was reported that five Tomsk universities – TSU, TPU, SSMU, Pedagogical University and University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics – submitted applications for participation in the project of the Ministry of Education and Science "Universities as the centers of space of innovations creation". Winner universities have to be transformed to the innovative centers, which also will solve strategically important problems of regions. Partnership of the universities, business and authorities are at the heart of the project. Results of the competition were announced on Thursday.

"Three of our universities – TSU, TPU and SSMU – were included into the program for creation of basic university for implementation of the "Universities as the centers of space of innovations creation" program of the Ministry of Education and Science. This is recognition for our region as 121 universities participated in the competition, and only 51 of them are winners. Applications for the competition were prepared together with the region therefore, on the one hand, this is recognition for us, and on another, heavy responsibility", – Antonov reported.

"The Tomsk region is unique the fact that here universities are that center, hub which can connect requirements of business, authorities and the educational sphere. The victory in this project will allow us to strengthen and develop a tandem with the region and with other universities, to adjust exchange of the best practices, administrative decisions, and approaches", – the press service of TSU quotes the comment of the rector of the university Eduard Galazhinsky.

Earlier it was also reported that TSU and TPU were included into the 5-100 project in 2013 to which participants additional financing is allocated for increase in the international competitiveness. At the end of October, 2017 following the results of protection of "road maps" till 2020 before the international council of the 5-100 project TSU entered into group of leaders, and TPU – in the second group.

Also four Tomsk universities – TSU, TPU, TUSUR and TSPU – entered top-300 of the rating QS for the developing countries of Europe and Central Asia (EESA)in 2017; at the same time TSU and TPU improved indicators, having taken the 11 and 40 places respectively. SSMU received the status of basic university (the program is directed to formation of the university centers which will contribute to the social and economic development of regions of the Russian Federation) in 2017.
