TOMSK, Jan 10 – RIA Tomsk. The
new genus of dinosaurs found by scientists of Tomsk State University (TSU) in
Siberia got the official name – Sibirotitan, the press service of the
university reported on Wednesday.
Earlier it was reported that
TSU scientists work not for the first year at coast of Bolshoy Kemchug in the
Krasnoyarsk Krai. They found the remains of not opened species titanosaurid
near to the village Shestakovo. This species of dinosaurs lived in the
southeast of Western Siberia, in a refugiuma – the area where it could endure
shocks safely which led to disappearance of its relatives in another part of
the planet.
"During the research of
fossils paleontologists revealed the anatomic features of dinosaur
distinguishing it from other famous congeners. The new species got the name
Sibirotitan", – it is said in the statement.

Also it is reported that
characteristic feature of the new species is existence of five sacral
vertebras, sacral edges focused radially (in the form of a star), and a special
crest on a neural arch of a trunk vertebra. Ancient pangolins with such
structure of a skeleton still weren't found anywhere.
"Anatomic features and a
binding to the former area of dwelling are recorded in the Latin name of the
new species – Sibirotitan astrosacralis. The first part of the name indicates
the huge sizes of the dinosaur whose length could reach 20 meters, and the
weight of 50 tons", – it is noted in the message.
As the employee of the Department
of Paleontology and Historical Geology Sergey Leshchinsky explained RIA Tomsk,
the name became official for the new genus and species of dinosaurs after the
publication in the scientific magazine Geobios.
