TOMSK, Nov 13 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk State University (TSU) together with the Russian
colleagues paleontologists studied a dinosaur egg found in Russia for the
first time and drawn a conclusion that this egg of predatory dinosaurs –
troodontidae which are considered ancestors of modern birds the press service
of the university reports on Monday.
With reference to the research associate of laboratory of continental
systems of the Mesozoic and the Cenozoic of Faculty of Geology and Geography of
TSU Stepan Ivantsov it is explained that the egg was revealed on location of
Shestakovo-3 in Kuzbass: it was in a layer of dense reddish clays, and it was
difficult to notice it as only the contour from shells was seen. This find is
still only in Russia.
It is specified that TSU scientists together with colleagues from St.
Petersburg State University, Zoological Museum of RAS and Paleontologic
institute of RAS investigated the egg-shell which diameter is only 2 centimeters.
Approximate age of the egg is about 100 million years. Having investigated
internal structure of the shell, experts came to a conclusion that the egg
belongs to predators-troodontidae.
"Studying of slides (thin cuts) under an electronic microscope shew
high similarity of their structure to a structure of an egg-shell of modern
birds. This fact is one more confirmation that all birds living now on Earth
are descendants of predatory dinosaurs who in the course of evolution changed
shape and lost teeth", – it is said in the statement.

It is noted that the average growth of a troodontidae didn't exceed one
meter. Embryo of an animal didn't remain as the laying of eggs was in a flood
plain of the ancient river and was destroyed during a high water.
It is added that 90% of the remains of dinosaurs found at different times
on Shestakovo-3 make psittacosaurus – primitive horned dinosaurs. But not all
samples from the expedition in Shestakovo-3 are studied, and a part of rare
exhibits still is in sandstone monoliths from where scientists gradually take
the remains of dinosaurs and other animals.
