TOMSK, Dec 27 – RIA Tomsk. The athletics marathon, held in Tomsk for the first time in 2018 and entered the top five of the best in Russia, will be held annually; the corresponding decision was made by the mayor of the regional center Ivan Klein, the press service of city administration reported on Thursday.
Earlier it was reported that the first Tomsk marathon was held on June 11, 2018. Together with professional athletes, ordinary residents of Tomsk also crossed the distance of 5, 21 and 42 kilometers. In total, more than 1.6 thousand athletes and several thousand spectators were registered. The youngest athlete was not the year old, and the most experienced one was more than 70 years old.
According to the press service, on Thursday the mayor held the first meeting of the organizing committee of the Tomsk Marathon-2019. The meeting participants discussed the work plan for preparing for the marathon and outlined key tasks for the near future.
"Our marathon entered the top five Russian competitions of this level. And we intend to make it traditional, coinciding with the City Day ... During a marathon, except direct organizers, the staff of divisions of the mayor's office, about 500 volunteers, police officers, specialists of health services were involved. In 2019, I am sure, there will be not less work", – Klein is quoted in the message.
Also earlier it was reported that the second Tomsk athletics marathon will be held on June 9, 2019. In addition to the traditional distances of 5, 21 and 42 kilometers, a new distance of 10 kilometers will be included. The symbol of the event will be the Kulai elk.
