TOMSK, Jan 31 – RIA Tomsk. Researchers of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) experimentally proved existence of "photonic hooks" – new type of the bent self-accelerating light beam; results of opening can be applied in microscopes with superpermission and in biological researches where management of molecules is required, the press service of TPU reports on Thursday.

It is specified that existence of "photonic hooks" was theoretically predicted in 2018, however this prediction had no experimental confirmation. The research was conducted by polytechnics together with scientists of Tomsk State University (TSU), General Physics Institute of RAS, Bangor University (Great Britain) and University of Central Florida (USA).

"TPU scientists together with colleagues from Great Britain and the Russian universities experimentally confirmed earlier predicted effect of "a photonic hook"… Simplicity of receiving and physical properties do it perspective for application in microscopes with the superpermission, for creation of biosensors and in biological researches where management of molecules is required", – it is said in the statement.

Experimental confirmation of existence of "photonic hooks" is the first step in researches of polytechnics. Further scientists intend to concentrate the opening on practical application.

"Photonic hook" has the smallest curvature from all ever the observed bent bunches, it less than the used wavelength. These are the new horizons for optics with the superpermission. But we intend to concentrate more on biological application of hooks", – the press service of quotes the project manager Igor Minin.

Due to the physical properties "photonic hook" can take molecules and move them. This effect can be useful, for example, to separation of some molecules from others, to search of the necessary molecules in biological researches. Results of experiments are presented in the Applied Physics Letters magazine.
