TOMSK, Jun 14 - RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State University undergraduate student Oleg Mayer won a bronze medal at the IV Championship of Professional Skills AtomSkills-2019 in Yekaterinburg, the press service of the university reported on Friday.
It is specified that AtomSkills - is the most large-scale industry championship in Russia for the workers and engineering professions of the nuclear industry, which is conducted on the basis of the WorldSkills methodology. This year it brought together almost 600 participants and as many experts.
"The undergraduate student of the academic master program "Intellectual Analysis of Big Data" Oleg Mayer won a bronze medal at the IV Championship of Professional Skills AtomSkills-2019 in Yekaterinburg. He participated in the "Machine Learning and Big Data" competence", - is said in the message.
Commenting on the course and results of the 2019 competition, Mayer noted the challenging level of the competitive task: it was a real practical task for the nuclear industry - how to detect defects in the weld of the flow tube according to information from the ultrasonic sensors of the semi-automatic ultrasonic control unit.

“Defects were cracks in the seam of various lengths and directions. We needed to develop a machine learning model that could unmistakably indicate in what place of a seam and what type of defect there is”, - Mayer is quoted in the message.
According to the press service of the university, the winners and prize-winners of the AtomSkills corporate championship at the age of under 28 will have the opportunity to join the industry team to participate in the National Championship of the through working professions of high-tech industries WorldSkills Hi-Tech.
WorldSkills - is the international non-profit movement with the aim of increasing the prestige of working professions and the development of professional education, unites 77 countries. Regional, district and national championships are held annually. The WorldSkills Championship has been held in the Tomsk region since 2015.
