Freshmen of the Higher IT School of Tomsk State University (HITs TSU) passed the exam in an unconventional form – they developed computer games and presented them at the thematic exhibition organized by the university, the employee of HITs Denis Zmeev reported RIA Tomsk on Tuesday.
As it is specified on the website of the university, the open exhibition was held at the Center of Culture of TSU: the students presented their final works on the course of programming. This form of the exam – the creation and presentation of computer games – is practiced in HITs for the second year.
"Students developed 15 games, 12 of which were invited to the exhibition. For first-year students without experience, this is a very good level. Students were not restricted in choosing topics. One game on a plot - is the story of a first-year student who enteres our school, another one – is a horror walker, the third one – is real-time strategy with freezing time. There are different types, different genres", – Zmeev said.

According to the university, the exam in an unconventional form – is part of the basic approach to learning called "learning by doing".
"Programmers – are people who write software products, therefore, they learn most effectively when they develop something. Therefore, training is built on the continuous application of theoretical knowledge in practice", – the press service of the university informs on the website.
It is added that the educational program "Software Engineering" is built on a fundamentally new approach to the training of an IT specialist. The main focus is on programming. It occupies a third of the curriculum, another third - mathematics, the rest – humanitarian subjects. The whole teaching methodology is aimed at training specialists who can quickly adapt to the rapidly developing technologies in this field.
