TOMSK, Aug 14 – RIA Tomsk. The construction of an inter-university student campus for 20 thousand people on the left bank of the Tom river can cost up to 20 billion rubles, the governor of the Tomsk region Sergei Zhvachkin said on Wednesday.
On Wednesday the head of the region held a retreat on the implementation of the "Housing and Urban Environment" national project. One of the bypass sites was the Northern Park. Earlier it was reported that next to the microdistrict within the framework of the "Education" national project it is planned to build a large student campus. A cable-stayed pedestrian bridge will connect it with the city center and with the existing buildings of universities.
"(Today) negotiations are underway with the investor. We are already moving (with the project), it will cost up to 20 billion rubles, there will be a large campus. We are tying it here because on the other (opposite) side is our university mile, where all universities are built", - Zhvachkin said.
According to Zhvachkin, a campus, which has no analogues in Russia, will increase the educational opportunities for students. "There will be lecture halls, large laboratories. The task is also to organize more training in foreign languages. Therefore, we are developing large programs with the rectors", - the head of the region said, adding that pedestrians, bicycles and electric cars can move along the planned cable-stayed bridge.

Earlier it was reported that the agreement on the construction of a modern student campus in Tomsk was signed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2019) by the administration of the Tomsk region, the VEB State Corporation and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. It will become a joint facility of all six Tomsk state universities.
