TPU gather scientists from 11 countries to advanced technologies forum

TOMSK, Oct 14 – RIA Tomsk. The International Forum on Strategic Technology (IFOST 2019) started on Monday at Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU); within four days, its participants - scientists from 11 countries - will discuss new technologies and advanced engineering solutions, RIA Tomsk the correspondent reports from the opening ceremony.

As specified on the event’s website, since 2006 IFOST has been conducting by a non-profit organization consisting of representatives of six universities: University Of Ulsan (South Korea), Mongolian University of Science and Technology (Mongolia), Chemnitz University of Technology (Germany), Harbin University of Science and Technology (China), Novosibirsk State Technical University and Tomsk Polytechnic University.

More than 200 participants from 11 countries

"Today is a significant day for TPU - the forum (IFOST) starts. Today we are hosting a large scientific delegation from France, Pakistan, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Germany, China, Mongolia and other countries", - the director of the Research School of Chemistry & Applied Biomedical Sciences Mekhman Yusubov told journalists.

According to the organizers, scientists from 11 countries came to the forum in TPU.

"It is a great honor and responsibility for TPU. Our university hosts the forum for the third time in its history since 2006. This year, foreign participants have experienced unprecedented interest in TPU and the region. In total 220 participants have been registered, 110 of them are participating in person", - the Deputy Vice-Rector for Research and Innovations Roman Ostvald told reporters.

Competition for young people and communication with colleagues

Ostvald added that the feature of this year’s forum - is the holding of the Global Capstone Design youth contest: "It is aimed at solving applied and practice-oriented inventive tasks. During the year, youth teams from Russia and Korea prepared projects, and here, at the forum, the final of the competition will be held".

As the professor Sylvain Marc from Aix-Marseille University (France) told reporters, he came to the forum to present the results of his scientific work on a new technique of radical polymerization and to communicate with TPU scientists.

"We have a close cooperation with TPU. But it’s still important for me to communicate with scientists, to use their skills that I can’t find in France. I can answer for chemistry: TPU corresponds to the level of the top 10 universities in Western Europe", - he said.

The forum will be held at Tomsk Polytechnic University from October 14 to 17. Its goal - is the development of cooperation between organizations participating in the consortium and other leading foreign scientific organizations.
