28 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) opened the reception of
applications from schoolchildren for the regional stage of the physics
tournament; the winners will go to Yekaterinburg in 2020 for the all-Russian
stage, where they will fight for the right to participate in the international
final, the press service of the university said on Monday.
It is
specified that the international tournament of young physicists – is a
competition of schoolchildren in the ability to conduct scientific research and
present the results of their work, protecting them in discussions. The
organizers of the regional stage in Tomsk are the Polytechnic University, the
Lyceum at TPU and the Information Center for Atomic Energy of Rosatom State
Corporation. It will be held in February 2020.
"The
winner of the regional stage of the tournament in Tomsk will receive a prize –
financing of a trip to the final of the all-Russian stage, which will be held
in Yekaterinburg in March 2020", – is said in the statement.
To take
part in the tournament, schoolchildren need to assemble a team of three to five
people and find a leader. It can be a school physics teacher, teacher or
university student. According to the conditions, the team must prepare one task
before the start of the competition and solve as many as possible during the
tournament. Applications for participation are accepted by e-mail

According
to the press service of TPU, the organizers chose 8 of the 17 tasks proposed by
the international jury as a competitive task for the regional stage: "Do
it yourself", "Singing Ferrites", "Sweet Mirage",
"Saxon Bowl", "Balls on Thread", "Soap Film
Filter", "Conducting Lines" and "Nitinol Engine".
"In
each of them, students will be asked to find their own solution or explanation
to the simplest physical phenomena, for example, the refraction of light in
water or the properties of a soap film", – is specified in the message.
It is added
that in 2018, 30 teams from different cities of Russia participated in the
stages of the tournament, while the tournament is held for students of 9-11
grades from more than 30 countries of the world.
"It
provides great opportunities for realizing creative and research potential. The
tournament sets for students tasks with
a double bottom: in the format of the game, they can think about simple things
and find non-trivial solutions", – the professor of the TPU Division for
Experimental Physics Andrey Lider is quoted in the message.
It is noted
that Tomsk Polytechnic University is ready to provide support and advice to
participants and team leaders in preparing experiments on the tasks of the
tournament.
TPU – is the
leading technical university of the country. It's founded in 1896 as Tomsk
Technological Institute of Practical Engineers of Emperor Nicholas II. It
became the first engineering university in the Asian part of the country. Today
TPU enters the top 10 universities of Russia and the top 400 universities of
the world.
