Teams of 21 regions of Russia played 50 sets of awards of the country's Finswimming Championship, in the team event Tomsk was on the third place, showing good results in individual disciplines, but losing to Krasnoyarsk and Novosibirsk, the president of the regional Federation of Underwater Sport Natalya Grechikhina told RIA Tomsk on Sunday.
According to the website of the Tomsk regional Federation, on February 11-16, in Tomsk, at the "Zvezdniy" water sports center, for the first time were held competitions of Russian Finswimming Championship. According to Grechikhina, 244 athletes from 21 regions of the country took part in them, they played 50 sets of medals. The interlocutor called the participation of the Tomsk team successful.
“The first place in the team event in the Cup of Russia was taken by the team of the Krasnoyarsk Krai, the second - the Novosibirsk Region, the third - the Tomsk region. At the same time, our girls are on the first place, and the male composition is very young and new - we can say, the experimental composition in the absence the leader of the team of the Tomsk region and Russia Dmitry Zhurman", - Grechikhina said.
She noted that at the Tomsk citizens the highest results were shown by the owner of several medals Alexandra Skurlatova at once, as well as juniors - Maria Medvedeva and Alexey Berestov. The results shown by athletes can affect their entry into the national team for the World Cup, which is planned to be held in July 2020 in Tomsk as well. However, the selection will continue at the three stages of the World Cup and at the Russian Championship.
“Preparations for the World Cup are in full swing. At the Cup we tested the program - a system for electronic time recording. We fixed some technical failures. I think that in the future we will hold some kind of all-Russian competition: either the Russian championship or the Cup of Russia, because we have very good reviews, they like to come to us", - the agency’s interlocutor summed up.
Earlier it was reported that the World Confederation of Underwater Activities (СMAS) supported the application of the Tomsk region to hold the World Swimming Championships in Tomsk in 2020. It should take place from July 9 to July 15. In 2017, the World Finswimming Championship was already held in Tomsk. About 300 junior athletes from 25 countries participated in the competition. The Russian national team took 35 medals.
