TOMSK, Sep 24 – RIA Tomsk. The regional university stage of the WorldSkills Competition started on Thursday at Tomsk State University (TSU); about 200 people have registered for its offline and online events, according to the university's website.

WorldSkills - is an international non-profit movement aimed at enhancing the prestige of working professions and developing vocational education, which unites more than 70 countries. Regional, district and national championships are held within the framework of the project. Earlier it was reported that the Tomsk region joined this movement in 2015.

"The fourth open qualifying university WorldSkills championship is being held at TSU from September 24 to September 30. Almost 200 people take part in it, taking into account experts. They will have to compete and evaluate the results of work in ten competencies", - is said in the report.

It is specified that the championship program includes 10 competencies, including quantum technologies, organization of excursion services, prototyping and others. For two of them - "Mobile Application Development" and "Machine Learning and Big Data" - remote mode is provided, the rest will be organized in full-time format in compliance with epidemiological safety measures.

"For most of the competencies the championship cannot be held remotely purely physically. For example, in"  Electronics" - they need an expensive set of equipment for soldering, not everyone has one at home. And it is very difficult to transfer such a set to each participant and control how (the equipment) is used", - director of the TSU WorldSkills Center Alexander Petelin is quoted in the message.

According to the press service, 84 out of almost 200 people - are participants in the competition. The rest - are maintainers, main, certified and independent experts.

As RIA Tomsk previously reported with reference to the organizers of the championship at TSU, participation in the university stage will help talented students prepare for the interuniversity championship and will give them the opportunity to get into the WorldSkills national team.
