Thirty-two-year-old scientist Dmitry Sednev became TPU Acting Rector

TOMSK, Jul 5 – RIA Tomsk. The Governor of the Tomsk region Sergey Zhvachkin and the Head of the Russian Minobrnauki Valery Falkov on Monday introduced the new Acting Rector of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) - the former Head of the TPU School of Non-Destructive Testing Dmitry Sednev, RIA Tomsk correspondent reports from the meeting of the TPU Academic Council.

Earlier it was reported, that the rector powers of Pyotr Chubik, who headed TPU for more than 10 years, expired at the end of 2018, and he headed the university for another year as acting rector. Since the end of 2019, there have been two more acting rectors at TPU: Victor Dyomin returned to the rectorate of Tomsk State University after not even a year at Polytechnic; Andrey Yakovlev is of Gazprom Neft descent, announced his move to a new job on Friday, July 2.

The TPU Academic Council meeting on Monday was attended by the Head of the university's Board of Trustees, Governor of the Tomsk region Sergey Zhvachkin, and the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov.

"One of your colleagues caught my eye a long time ago - a polytechnician, young... From tomorrow, July 6, Dmitry Andreevich Sednev is appointed Acting Rector - I signed the order", Falkov said.

He also noted that he discussed the 32-year-old scientist's candidacy with representatives of business, polytechnics and the chairman of the university's supervisory board, Governor Sergey Zhvachkin.

"It is a great honor for me, and thank you for the trust that was given to me. Polytechnic is my alma mater, my home, my family. Everyone in this room is my teachers, my colleagues, my associates. I sincerely count on the support of each and every one of you," Sednev said in his response.

The minister thanked the outgoing acting rector, Andrey Yakovlev, for his work, under whom, according to Falkov, TPU was able to advance in a number of important areas. In one of these areas - very promising for the country - Yakovlev was offered a job at the new place. For his part, head of the Tomsk region Sergey Zhvachkin presented Yakovlev with a certificate of honor.

Earlier it was also reported that since 2010 TPU, as well as Tomsk State University, is a federal state autonomous educational institution of higher education with the status of a National Research University. Rectors in such universities are not elected, but appointed by decision of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
