TOMSK, Apr 1 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State University (TSU) and leading companies of the region conducted
IT school in which students of three Tomsk universities participated. Novice
programmers trained in the IT companies and developed various software within a
month. Those who coped with the task received the offer on employment. More
details – in material of RIA Tomsk.
Earlier it was reported that for the first time TSU conducted IT school in
2017. Its main idea is to gather representatives of the companies, skilled IT
experts and students for the solution of specific production tasks. This
association helps youth to understand in what direction it is necessary to
develop, and to the companies – to pick up new talented workers.
IT school instead of an interview
Applications for participation in IT school - 2018 were submitted by more
than 100 people. These are students of TSU, and of Tomsk Polytechnic

Participants of the IT school in TSU
Organizers selected 23 from 100 applications, the start of IT school was
reached by 19 people. "Thus, the best of the best were selected", –
the head of the Department of Practice and Employment of State University
Alexander Petelin comments.
According to him, participants are students of elder years or
undergraduates, future programmers. At the first stage of IT school they
discussed the offered projects with the organizers. Then the training in the
companies began, and experts declared at once that the most active participants
will be able to get into staff – a unique opportunity for students and
graduates without experience.

At the classes at the IT-school of TSU
Petelin explains: the traditional interview at employment gives fast
understanding of how the graduate can realize himself whether is guided in a
subject, whether there is an experience. And the IT school allows to understand
how quickly the university graduate adapts to working process.
"Children can not have experience, but it is good to master a
technology and to show himself to the employer in a month. The curator sees
that this graduate will be a good expert, he should be employed. Therefore the
format of IT school is very interesting to all participants of process", –
Petelin says.

Participants of the IT school in TSU
Alexander Ivanov, the second-year student of TSU, had a training in
SibEDGE. This company is considered one of the leaders of the Tomsk IT market.
It specializes in custom development – creation of information systems for
large and medium business.
"Sseveral participants and I charged to develop the software for
booking of meeting rooms in office of SibEDGE. Ours software had to display the
current status of the meeting room and its schedule on the tablet which would
hang directly near the meeting room. Up to this point the booking was kept on
stickers near the room", – the student tells.
The students team analysed the market of already existing decisions and
found out that Microsoft Exchange (the platform where electronic calendars of
staff of the company are) already has a part of necessary functionality on
booking of general resources in the organization.
"Using this platform, it is possible to reserve meeting rooms by means
of the electronic calendar. We needed only to customize this system and to
develop the application which would hang directly near the meeting room and
displayed its data", – the programmer explains.
As a result the team developed a web application which shows the current
status of the room and future events and allows to reserve an event from the
tablet quickly.

Projects of the participants of the IT school
The head of the HR department of SibEDGE Valery Sergeyev tells that the
prototype of the necessary software was expected from children, but the team
created the finished software product.
"They surpassed our expectations, tried well, worked together well.
And actually already now we have the ready decision which we will test at
ourselves in the company in the next month. <…> We will cooperate with
all children. We will accept someone to the state now, and someone – after the
graduation from the university", – Sergeyev says.
He emphasizes that students come to IT school with the good basic knowledge
gained at the university: "It allowed us to speak one language and to
understand each other. <…> We selected people who easily communicate, are
rather active, can show an initiative and bring it to some result".
According to the organizers, TSU will organize the next IT school in a
year. As well as in previous years, it will be supported by the leading
representatives of IT community and business.
