TPU reported on reforming of structure within the 5-100 project

TOMSK, Oct 26 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) presented results of implementation of "road map" on 5-100 project for last year to Council on Global Competitiveness; university considers transition to principles of interdisciplinarity and cooperation in education and scientific and innovative activity as key achievement, press service of TPU reported.

Earlier it was reported that two Tomsk universities – TSU and Tomsk Polytechnic University – participate in the 5-100 program since 2013. Both universities received the maximum financing in 2015, entered into the second group in 2017 and 2016. TPU kept the place in the second group with the amount of financing about 480 million rubles in 2018.

According to the press service, the meeting of the Council on Global Competitiveness of leading universities of the Russian Federation takes place these days in Kaliningrad. The authoritative international and Russian scientists, experts and businessmen who are a part of the Council participate in the meeting. The delegation of TPU headed by the rector Petr Chubik submitted the report on implementation of "road map" until 2020.

"The university was focused on development of the principles of interdisciplinarity and cooperation. Such direction is caused by inevitability of change of traditional models of engineering education and the organization of scientific and innovative activity. Last year the university refused cathedral structure to overcome disciplinary "partitions", – it is said in the statement.

It is noted that reforming of structure of the university is designed to improve quality of training of engineers capable not only to work with modern technologies, but also to initiate creation of absolutely new ones.

It is added that following the results of the work the Council will prepare recommendations for the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation of continuation of the state support of the universities of the 5-100 Project and offers for universities about updating of programs of increase in competitiveness.
