Scientists of Center of the European Researches of Tomsk State University (TSU) conducted survey among European students coming to Tomsk for study and found out that they aspire to Siberia for grant, knowledge for subsequent employment and "some extreme", director of the Center Larisa Deriglazova reported on Thursday at forum of university towns.
According to her, within the research the staff of the Center of the European Researches TSU interviewed four students from France, seven – from Finland, three – from Germany and on one student from Norway and Great Britain. All respondents came to Tomsk for a period of one month up to one year.
"We talked to students who arrived to Tomsk, about the reasons of their choice. Well, firstly, it is a grant. Also there were such motives as desire to improve the Russian, to study culture and the history of the country as it is connected with professional plans, in particular, one French student wanted to get a job in the Embassy of France in Russia", – Deriglazova told.
She added that aspiration to travel, desire to get new experience and "some extreme" are among other reasons.

Also the expert reported that, coming to Russia, European students face a number of problems: with a language barrier, lack of comfort in hostels and public places, difficulties of obtaining information on opportunities of training and settling, gender stereotypes, the Russian mentality and other.
Earlier it was reported that the Third international forum of the university towns took place from November 28 to November 30 in TSU. According to the press service of the university, questions which participants should discuss on round tables, discussions and conferences concern a scientific problem of sustainable development of city spaces with the developed university campuses in a modern and historical context.
