extended the authority of Petr Chubik as the Acting Rector of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) for another year, the relevant order was issued this week, a
source familiar with the situation reported RIA Tomsk.
The appointment of a new rector (since TPU, like Tomsk
State University, is included in the "5-100" program and is a federal
state autonomous educational institution of higher education, rectors are not
elected, but appointed) - the prerogative of the Ministry of Education and
Science.
“The order came to the university. It says: “to entrust from July 9, 2019, temporary performance of the duties of the rector to Petr Savelyevich Chubik in the prescribed manner for a period not exceeding one year”, - the interlocutor of the agency told.
Earlier it was reported that the authority of the
Tomsk Polytechnic University rector Petr Chubik expired on December 30, 2018,
and he did not stand his candidature for a new term. About 20 people applied
for the post of the rector, including foreigners. The main candidate was
identified by the Supervisory Board of the university, it became TPU professor
Mekhman Yusubov. But the ministry included him in the personnel reserve, and
Chubik remained temporarily to serve as the rector until July 8.
Tomsk Polytechnic University - is the leading
technical university of the country. It's founded in 1896 as Tomsk
Technological Institute of Practical Engineers of Emperor Nicholas II. It
became the first engineering university in the Asian part of the country. Today
TPU enters the top 10 universities of Russia and the top 400 universities of
the world.
