TOMSK, Aug
6 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) developed
technology of the energy efficient hammerless hydraulic impulse machine which
will help to make drilling mechanisms cheaper and "hardy", is
reported on the website of the university on Tuesday.
It is added
that drilling and rock destructive operations are conducted in various
industries (mining, laying of underground services, construction, space
programs). Nevertheless, there are often problems connected with need of
overcoming inclusions or rocks of high hardness in the course of the
horizontally directed well-drilling. It demands use of a rational way of their
destruction.
"Shock
mechanisms of drilling rigs form power impulses of the irrational form which is
not considering property of rock to resistance for its destruction. Such form
of impulses and short duration of their impact on rock reduces depth of
introduction of a crown in it and forms the stretching wave destroying the
boring tool", – the press service reports.
As
professor of Division for Oil and Gas Engineering of TPU Lev Saruyev whose
words are cited in the message explains, there was a need for development of
essentially new shaper of the power impulses corresponding to process of
resistance of rock: "The offered development has indisputable advantages:
mass-dimensional characteristics, energy efficiency, explosion safety".

New
drilling rig is based on formation and transfer of a power impulse (based on
the wave theory of impact) and application of the special threaded connection of
the drilling pipes providing effective transmission of energy of impact in a
rock destruction zone.
As the
authors of the development consider, the technology will allow to reduce the
cost of drilling operations and to increase the require repairs periods (due to
lack of the colliding parts in the mechanism drive). The mobility of the
installation is provided due to lack of the compressor or the oil-pumping
station. The scientists plan to be focused on a series of practical experiments
directed to creation of an industrial sample of essentially new class of rock
cutting machines.
Tomsk
Polytechnic University is the leading technical university of the country. It
is founded in 1896 as the Tomsk Technological Institute of Emperor Nicholas II.
Became the first engineering university in the Asian part of the country. Today
TPU enters top-10 the universities of Russia and top-400 the universities of
the world.
In June,
2019 TPU entered top-10 the rating of the universities made by the Russian
editorial office of the Forbes magazine, having taken the ninth place; it is
the best result among not capital universities of the country.
