TOMSK, Dec 1 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk resident Ilya Afonin took gold at the WAKO Senior World Championships, which takes place in Antalya (Turkey), the athlete's trainer, head of the Tomsk kickboxing federation Kirill Bazayev reported on his Facebook page.

The WAKO Senior World Championships is taking place in Turkish Antalya from November 23 to December 1 in the disciplines: "full contact", "point fighting", "solo compositions".

"Afonin Ilya became the kickboxing world champion in the "full contact" section and fulfilled the standards of the honored master of sports! The phenomenal result of an excellent athlete! More than 15 years of work, sweat, blood, tears and much more! Ilya – you are a great athlete! I am proud to be your trainer!", – Bazayev wrote.

As an employee of the press service of the regional department for youth policy, physical culture and sports specified RIA Tomsk, Afonin was the only athlete from Tomsk at the championship and performed in the weight category up to 63.5 kilograms. This is his first gold in the world championship. In the final fight for the title, Tomsk citizen fought with an athlete from Jordan.

This year representatives of the Tomsk kickboxing federation show very good results in kickboxing competitions, the department added. In particular, in October, at the kickboxing European championship in Bosnia and Herzegovina Turgai Mamedov became the first Tomsk World Champion.
