TOMSK, May 11 – RIA Tomsk. The main events in celebration of the 125th anniversary of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) are scheduled for Tuesday. Among the invited are alumni and partners from the regions of Russia, Europe, Asia and Africa. Earlier it was reported that in 2021, TPU celebrates 125 years since its foundation. Throughout the year the university will hold holiday events: All-Russian Student Entrepreneurship Forum, international scientific conferences, competitions and a large sports festival. The activities are planned in such a way that they can be easily shifted into remote or mixed format if necessary.

"The main events (in honor of the 125th anniversary of TPU) are scheduled for May 11. The celebration will begin with the laying of flowers at the memorial plaques of outstanding scientists and graduates of the Tomsk Polytech. The commemorative ceremony will begin at 08.30 at the main building of TPU (Lenin Avenue, 30)... Chairman of the Supervisory Board of TPU, Governor of the Tomsk region Sergey Zhvachkin will take part in the festive events", – a representative of the press service of the university told RIA Tomsk.

On Novosobornaya Square for Tomsk citizens there will be a photo exhibition "125 years of TPU", dedicated to the history of the university, the famous polytechnics and their achievements. It will open at 09.30. At 10.10 near the second building of the university (Lenin av. 43a) will start the finals of the race "TPU 125th Anniversary", which started in March. Graduates and partners of the university from Russia, Czech Republic, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and African countries became its participants.

At 15.00, the International Cultural Center will begin a solemn meeting of the International Scientific Council and the presentation of the jubilee medals "125 years of TPU". One can see the meeting online. Also, such events will be held in all TPU schools.

From 16.30, the "Student Arbat" will begin to work near the TPU International Cultural Center (13b Usova St.), where the university creative teams will perform with songs and dances. It will also be possible to make a souvenir with 3D-pen, conduct a chemical experiment and get acquainted with the inventions of polytechnics.

In addition, sports grounds will host competitions for students and staff all day long: a friendly futsal match, Ready for Work and Defence tests and a festival of competitive sports. The schedule of games can be found on the website.

Also, photo booth zones will be open all day long at the Polytechnic campus. Everyone will be able to visit the university's buildings to see the classic interiors of the buildings from the early 20th century. In the museum of the main building there will be a movie screening, including Zemlya Sannikova and Star Wars.

TPU was founded by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Empire as Tomsk Technological Institute of Emperor Nicholas II on April 29 (May 11, New Style), 1896. It was the first engineering institute in the Asian part of Russia. Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev was actively involved in the creation of the Institute and especially its Chemical Department. Classes at the Institute began in the fall of 1900.
