TOMSK, Nov 2 – RIA Tomsk. Samsung Electronics summed up the results of the Samsung IT Academy inter-university student project competition, with two projects of Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR) among the winners, the university's press service told RIA Tomsk on Monday.

Samsung IT Academy is a long-term free social and educational program by Samsung Electronics. The project, which aims to train high-calibre professionals in the most in-demand areas of IT, was launched in 2017. To date, Samsung IT Academy classes have been held at 34 universities in Russia.

"Samsung Electronics held the finals of the fourth annual inter-university competition of projects of graduates of Samsung IT Academy educational programs <...> TUSUR's projects were presented in two nominations of the finals – Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence. Both projects were highly praised by the jury and became winners," the report said.

Participants in the Internet of Things track presented prototypes of devices using modern communication technologies to the jury. The best project was awarded to Monitor of Cold by Artem Osintsev (TUSUR). The developed system monitors temperatures in industrial refrigeration units in real time, logs statistics and informs in case of temperature range violations. The project has already been put into pilot operation.

In the Artificial Intelligence track, participants had to present a trained neural network embedded in an application software system. The winners in this track were Pavel Laptev and Sergey Davydenko with their project Image Segmentation Using Price Tags as an Example. The project can be used by the shop staff to automatically check the information on the price tag against the actual information in the organization’s database.

The projects were judged on criteria such as the idea, software and hardware component of the project. Experts from Samsung Research Russia and leading IT companies such as Kaspersky Lab, IBM, Yandex, Diasoft and others were on the jury of the final.

"TUSUR became one of the winners of Priority 2030, and in the university's development program, the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence are among the key development areas for the entire university, not just the security faculty, which hosts the Samsung IT Academy center," the press service quotes Anton Konev, curator of the program at TUSUR.

During the awarding ceremony, special awards were also presented, in particular, Samsung honored the Tomsk university with the title of "University of the Year".
