TOMSK, Nov 16 – RIA Tomsk. The development budget of the Big University project, including grants and an additional program to support genomic research, is more than 3.5 billion rubles, Rector of Tomsk State University (TSU) Eduard Galazhinsky said at the press conference "Tomsk Big University: driver of knowledge region development" at TASS on Tuesday.
Earlier it was reported that TSU, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR) and Siberian State Medical University (SSMU) received large grants from 140 million to one billion rubles each in October within the framework of Priority 2030 program of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, having presented and defended their development programs. The success was influenced by the pooling of universities' competencies within the Big University project.
As Galazhinsky explained, the Big University's development budget is made up of grants received by the participating universities to implement various large-scale programs, including joint ones. One of these programs is the program to support genomic research: "For example, TUSUR has taken on the task of developing a genomic printer, we (TSU) are responsible for the material and SSMU for the approbation."
"(Together) with genomic research, the Big University project development budget additionally amounted to more than 3.5 billion rubles... This is the focus on big tasks, in which everyone has his own unit, his own project, where one plus one gives not two, but four, was marked by a serious resource, which today allows to move even more intensively," he said.
The scientific and educational complex of the Tomsk region is the key to the strategy of social and economic development of the region. One of the first steps to achieve this goal was the creation of the Big University that will integrate six universities and all Tomsk research institutes while keeping their legal independence. Integration is necessary to improve the competitiveness of Tomsk education and science in Russia and the world, and to develop Tomsk as a university city.
