TOMSK,July 1– RIA Tomsk. National Research Tomsk State
University was founded in 1878 by Emperor Alexander II as the Imperial Siberian
University. TSU today is a classical university of research type, the center of
science, education and innovations.
In 2010,
TSU deservedly won “national research” status. In 2013 it entered top-15
leading universities of Russia which will receive state support to entry into
the first hundred higher education institutions of world ratings.

faculties and educational institute, four branches and 30 centers of
pre-university preparation and career guidance in the cities of Siberia and
Kazakhstan are in the structure of the university. 19 thousand students in 135
directions and specialties, 500 graduate students on 86 specialties, 100
doctoral candidates on 36 specialties study at the university.
More than
450 doctors and 900 candidates of science, 43 winners of the Russian Federation
National Award in Science and Technology work at the university, and 20
dissertation councils function.
About 100
members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Academy of Medical
Science and academies of science of the states of the CIS, more than 250
winners of the State award, two Nobel Prize laureates studied and worked in TSU
at different times.
Five groups
of scientists of TSU are in recent years awarded the Russian Federation
National Award in Science and Technology, an award of the Government of the
Russian Federation in the field of science and equipment, the Russian
President's award in the field of education; 43 schools of sciences were
included into the presidential list of the leading science schools of Russia.
Fundamental
scientific researches are conducted at the Siberian Institute of Physics and
Technology, Scientific Research Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics,
Scientific Research Institute of Biology and Biophysics, the Siberian botanical
garden, the Herbarium and about 100 scientific laboratories.
TSU is the
largest information center, including Scientific library of national value
(four million copies of editions), Institute of Distance Education, the Tomsk
region teleport.
The
university possesses the developed innovative infrastructure including the
training, scientific, implementation centers, equipped with the most modern and
unique equipment, including the supercomputer SKIF Cyberia.
More than
35 companies are included into a belt of the small TSU innovative enterprises,
among them 24 enterprises opened within Federal Law No. 217. The Russia's first
import-substitution enterprise for production of the glyoxal created on the
basis of scientific development of the university was launched in 2009.
The
university takes prestigious positions in the Russian and international
ratings: the third place among the Russian higher education institutions in a
world rating of Webometrics after MSU and St. Petersburg State University, the
sixth place in a world rating of THE among the Russian participants of top-500,
the seventh place among the Russian higher education institutions which entered
a rating of universities of the countries of BRICS – Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
TSU
develops large-scale international cooperation with leading training and
research centers, realizes projects on the most prestigious grants of the
largest funds (Carnegie Corporation, New Eurasia Fund, MacArthur Foundation,
CRDF Fund) and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation
in the field of development of both humanitarian, and physical and mathematical
sciences.
Projects on
15 grants of the European TEMPUS program with universities of Sheffield,
Utrecht and Oxford are executed. Professors of TSU are invited for lecturing in
Stanford, Oxford, Cambridge, Sorbonne, and Heidelberg and in other foreign
universities.
