TOMSK, Sep 10 – RIA Tomsk.
Scientists of Tomsk State University (TSU) and Institute of Atmospheric Optics
of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science will count properties
of ice crystals of which clouds consist, for the German meteorologists, the
press service of TSU reported on Thursday.
"The conclusion of the contract
on cooperation between Institute of Atmospheric Optics and the German weather
service (Deutscher Wetterdienst) became big achievement. Tomsk scientists will
carry out calculations of the actual properties of ice crystals that the German
meteorologists could use it in the model of weather forecasting", – it is
told in the message.

It is explained that the contract
was signed after speech of the young Tomsk scientist Alexander Konoshonkin in
Leipzig (Germany) at the international Electromagnetic and Light Scattering XV
conference devoted to dispersion of radio waves and optical radiation.
It is specified that its report was
devoted to influence of crystals hexagons of a nonideal form of which clouds
consist, on dispersion of light. "As the results of researches show, the
slightest deviation of a form of a crystal from ideal qualitatively changes
characteristics of dispersion", – emphasized in the higher education
institution.
According to TSU, dispersion of
radiations in the atmosphere is studied at the university more than 50 years,
planning to create a global optical and climatic model of the planet. Research
of crystals of clouds allowed scientists to come nearer to its construction.
According to foreign colleagues, Tomsk scientists are world leaders in
researches in the field of dispersion of optical radiation now.
